1. Materials Creating Vietnamese Lacquer Fountain Pen – Song Ke Truong Cuu

Traditional Vietnamese lacquer is a surface decoration technique of lacquer, creating effects like clouds on the surface of lacquer. To create the Vietnamese lacquer fountain pen, craftsmen will use special tools and materials, including:

  • Pen core (or pen tip) carefully selected by artisans and made entirely from precious woods of Vietnam such as Mun wood, Rosewood, Cam wood, Fragrant wood, …
  • Lacquer is the main material to create the surface of the cloud-pattern lacquer pen. Concopens’ lacquer pens use traditional decorative materials made from gold, silver: gold leaf, gold grinding silver leaf, silver leaf, or natural materials such as shell, shellfish, nacre powder, … to create the cloud pattern effect on the surface of lacquer.
  • Son tree resin is the main adhesive used in the lacquer production process extracted in Phu Tho province. This adhesive is used to bond lacquer and pen core.
  • Colors used in lacquer come from various natural mineral powders, for example, green is created from malachite, lazurite or red, yellow are created from vermilion, cinnabar, orpiment… In addition, precious metals such as 18k gold, 24k gold, silver… are added in some stages.
  • Tools: Craftsmen will use tools such as brushes, feather pens, or hands to create the cloud pattern on the surface of lacquer.

All of the above materials are used to create beautiful traditional lacquer fountain pens with high value and are used in many fields.
